WFA Special Events
2013 WFA Classic Wooden Boat Exhibit
It was a beautiful October weekend for this year's boat show visitors to enjoy the exhibit. The crystal clear Buzzards Bay was the perfect back drop for the event. The Landing and Life Saving station were full of a variety of hand crafted vessels to check out. Some of the local builders were on hand to talk about their boats and their craft throughout the weekend.
Inside the visitor center guests were able to enjoy the displays of half models designed and built by Scott Gifford, a customized diorama built by Tom Schmitt of the approach and waterway leading into the Westport Harbor, Antique boat building tools on loan from Howard Gifford, and a beautiful Sailing Ship Model dated 1933 that had belonged to John Nicholas Brown, from the collection of Roswell Underwood.
The marine equipment sale was also a great success again this year . The WFA would like to extend our thanks to all who contributed to our exhibit in an effort to celebrate the sport, art, craft and history of boating and boat building in our local community.
30th Annual Clambake September 15, 2013
We had a great event.
The WFA directors, their families, members and volunteers hosted another great event this year. Allen Walters and his crew delivered delicious bakes all around the clams an lobster were cooked to perfection. We raffled off many terrific raffle prizes and of course concluded the event with the Wooden Boat Raffle. For the first time the winner was right there with us under the pavilion it was terrific. Deb Theron and her family pictured below are the proud new owners of this year’s beautifully handcrafted abenaki style canoe. Deb is originally from Westport and has been a long time supporter of the WFA and attended many of our bakes with her mom Barri Throop
Many thanks to all our members and guests that purchased Bake tickets, raffle tickets and merchandise. All of the proceeds from this annual event helps to support the work we do to advocate for a healthy Westport River and its tributaries and offset the operational costs of the life saving station and visitor center, allowing it to be free and open to the public during the summer months and for special events.
Many thanks to all of this year’s sponsors: Lees Supermarket, Blount Fine Foods, Narragansett, Graphix Plus, New England Promotions, The Back Eddy, Lafrance Hospitality, Ten Cousins, Bobs Sea & Ski, Ace Hardware, Arthur Moniz, Lynda Perkins, Kim Fernandes, Laurie Marinone Anderson, Barbara Bates, Howard Gifford, Cindy Reynolds. We truly appreciate their generous contributors in an effort to support our fundraising efforts and allow us an opportunity to host this wonderful feast of clams, lobsters, meats and veggies, award great raffle prizes to our guests and catch up with all of our members and community friends.
